Where Sound Goes

Music is the art

of marking time with sound

       but where does music go once played

Poetry is the art

of marking time with words

       but where do poems go once said

Can we capture sound

like we bartered for our birthright

or pin down words

like angels eager for a fight

Are we like sound

or a bowl of lentils

here and gone

Are we like words

posturing strength

most forgotten

some remembered
